Has it been three days since I last posted here? Ahem! I seem to be forgetting that this is my fucking diary! :P

Anyway. The truth is that all this Diwali hooplah kept me away from my occupation. I had to go and visit some of my relatives, I had to get my house ready for receiving the rest of them, and then I had to practice the fine are of laziness!! So that’s how these days went.

About today, oh well! I solved the problem that was nagging me for months!! That incredulous noise from my PC!!

All these days, I was convinced that those unceremonious howls that my PC made from time to time were linked to a faulty hard-disk. So today I decided to check what’s up. I opened up my cabinet, removed the hard disk, refitted it (because I thought that the screws might be loose…) Still, there was no effect. :(

However, while listening into the cabinet, I found out that the source of the noise was the CPU fan rather than the hard-disk. A quick websearch came up with a solution – clean the damn fan!!

And believe me…. I took out a FISTFUL OF DIRT from inside it!!!

Khoda Pahaad Nikli Chuhiya!!! :P

Few of the pointers that I’ve noticed in the past few days:

  • My holidays are getting over!! Ever since Dusshera, I’ve been sitting at home – enjoying my college-free days. However, workdays start from Monday. Boo Hoo!!
  • Its festive season and I’m tiring it out. We have far too many obligations during the Diwali season, and I fail to understand why. Why do we just go and meet our relatives only during the festive season? Why not during the rest of the year?
  • I’ve been a victim (perhaps?) of mood swings lately. Sometimes, I feel a little more than euphoric, and sometimes my feelings are rather dismal. I’ve yet to associate this with some reason or cause…
  • I’m running Kubuntu 9.04, and KDE (thankfully) hangs much less than GNOME. Some say that Firefox is the culprit, but I’m not quite sure of that. And I’d certainly like to try Debian someday, and turn it into a sully functional webserver. :)
  • TV serials are clearly on their path to destruction. The other day I was watching Uttaran, and was utterly depressed to see how Ichchha was ready to give away her man to her “friend”, who didn’t even give a fuck to her sacrifice.  Fucking Bastard!!

No wonder our culture is becoming cattle fodder.

Two days of fun, and one day of lethargy… That pretty much sums up my recent days. As I’ve said before, I’d gone to Gurgaon to attend the inauguration of Aarav’s new house, as well as his naming ceremony. (Aarav isn’t his official name. In fact, he doesn’t have an official name even till now.)

As per the Sikh tradition, his name should start with the letter S. (The reason why is beyond the scope of this post. :P ) His family is now busy searching for a suitable name.

On a different note, I got back to my PC today, and I’m busy cleaning its innards as of now. I’m writing DVDs in bulk, deleting files I don’t need, and organizing the rest into various folders. Dull work, I know – but it is something that has been pending for long. For a perfectionist like me who likes everything to be in its place, this is something vitally important!

I’m stealing the time while a DVD is being written to dish out this post.

A Cajun man wants a job, but the foreman won’t hire him until he passes a little math test. “Here’s your first question, the foreman said. “Without using numbers, represent the number 9.”

“Without numbers?” the Cajun says, “Dat is easy.” and proceeds to draw three trees.

“What’s this?” the boss asks.

“Ave you got no brain? Tree and tree and tree make nine,” says the Cajun.

“Fair enough,” says the boss. “Here’s your second question. Use the same rules, but this time the number is 99.”

The Cajun stares into space for awhile, then picks up the picture that he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree. “Ere you go.”

The boss scratches his head and says, “How on earth do you get that to represent 99?”

“Each of da trees is dirty now. So, it’s dirty tree, and dirty tree, and dirty tree. Dat is 99.” The boss is getting worried that he’s going to actually have to hire this Cajun, so he says, “all right, last question. Same rules again, but represent the number 100.”

The Cajun stares into space some more, then he picks up the picture again and makes a little mark at the base of each tree and says, “Ere you go. One hundred.”

The boss looks at the attempt. “You must be nuts if you think that represents a hundred!”

The Cajun leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree and says, “A little dog came along and crap by each tree. So now you got dirty tree and a turd, dirty tree and a turd, and dirty tree and a turd, which makes one hundred… So, when do I start?!”

When Aarav is around you, each and every day of yours becomes super tiring! Such an active nephew of mine! :-)

I’m currently posted in Gurgaon, where the inaugration of Aarav’s new house is underway – and I’m enjoying each and every aspect of it… Mostly because my dear nephew is with me.

You know what? He has learnt to speak some rudimentary words, and I heard him call me chacha for the first time!!! Cho Chweeeet!

Now I’m tired of typing on my phone… Will post a longer entry when I get to a PC. See you guys later. :-)

I don’t know what’s happening to me. Even after pinning down a “NO LINUX POLICY” poster at a prominent place in my room, I found myself downloading the torrent of Fedora 11. When will my linux fixation end? Its not that I despise it.. Only that my mom also uses my PC, and she can’t stand linux even for a minute! And she fails to understand why it hangs up (regularly), and why isn’t Windows better. No, I’m not going to explain the finer points of the open source movement to her! :P

On another note though, I spent a tiring day of shopping today. Went to Kamla Nagar to buy some stuff (read: bedsheets, shirts, bags et al), then went to CP to buy some more stuff (read: nothing!), and then went to some other place to buy some other stuff (read: nowhere, nothing!) And notice my luck! I was in the walking distance to my college today, and forgot to carry my marksheet so that I could submit my examination form! :-| I took the form from the office though, and now I have a colossal task ahead of me. (It requires convincing dad to go and submit that form! :P )

Now I’m gonna sit back and listen to Pink Floyd. Tada!

Radio Jhankaar is perhaps the best bollywood radio station out there! Today, it just kept playing my favorite tracks! Sample this – Pathshala from Rang De Basanti, title track of Dil Chahta Hai, Tumhi Dekho Na from KANK, Bum Bum Bole from Taare Zameen Par, Lamha Lamha from Ganster, O Re Piya from Aaja Nach Le, Khabar Nahi from Dostana… The list goes on!

Unlike some of my friends (read: Mohnish), I’ve grown up listening to bollywood music. I still have a formidable collection of audio cassettes to back this up! (Though with the advent of MP3, this collection is a little obsolete :P )

I’d heartily welcomed the private FM channels when they’d made an appearance in Delhi. However, these days they aren’t quite up to the mark. They provide us with mindless blabber, and have a habit of playing the same track fifteen times a day – so much so that after some days, even the little sound of that wretched track becomes a pain in the ass!

Radio Jhankaar is a different equation altogether. No Ads, No Blabber, No Chattering, and No Repitition. Their track selection is awesome… Not only do they play the latest hits, they also play the choicest songs from the byegone era (read: tracks older than a year or two). In short, listening to Jhankaar is a pleasant experience. :)

Radio Jhankaar is available on Channel 46 on the WorldSpace Network, and they haven’t paid me to write this. :P
