Open Source. For the layman, here is the definition: Open source describes practices in production and development that promote access to the end product’s source materials.

The Operating System I use (Ubuntu) is open source. The blogging software I use (Wordpress) is open source. The Office Suite I use (OpenOffice) is open source. The instrumental music I listen to (eg – Fairytale) is open source. And now, the study material I use for mathematics, is open source!

Open source is the revolution of, not just the future, but also the present! Hail Ho!

Happy that things are finally happening.

We already have th cheapest call rates in the world (1p/sec… How much lower can it get? MTNL already has a plan of ½p/sec!) Then we have companies fighting for the lowest SMS tariff. Currently, the crown is held by Reliance, which offers SMS at 1p each, valid for 30 days, with a recharge of Rs. 11. It is closely followed by Vodafone (20000 SMS free for 30 days @ Rs. 89) and Airtel (700 SMS free per day for 30 day @ Rs. 88). Reliance is the cheapest, because no person worth his salt can send close to 20000 SMS in a month (Ask me, I could manage only about 5000!)

And then there is the all mighty (almighty?) MTNL. Starting March 1, it has unveiled a new broadband plan – 512kbps with unlimited data download for only Rs. 600 a month! Plus, all the subscribers of the 256kbps unlimited plan are upgraded to the 512kbps plan automatically, at no extra cost!

This is going to increase the piracy rates in Delhi and Mumbai (where MTNL is present) multifold! :P

It was a hearty experience, this college! It’s got to be, for you taste freedom for the first time, isn’t it? New friends, new accquaintences, new relationships… All of it and more. New philosophies, new tastes, new experiences… All of it and more.

Funny, isn’t it? When you forge new bonds, you feel that you’ll keep them with you forever. And then you become sad on the last day of college. When you’ve already decided to maintain those bonds forever, then why be sad? Think about it.

A few words about the farewell ceremony though… It was a very hearty affair. The juniors had organised it very well (hem hem!). It was in the auditorium, which was a privilege in itself! I delivered a speech, in which I talked about the memories that have come to be associated with college, and friends. It was well received, I must say! Everyone laughed, everyone remembered things, and everyone applauded!

It was then followed by title-giving-ceremony, where the junior gave us “titles”… I was given that of Mr. Robotic Mind or something… (Didn’t listen for I was too busy clicking pictures! :P)

Then came the PJ King competition, where Dhruv won by a w i d e margin! A dance party followed, where everyone enjoyed and I clicked pictures (again!).

It was fun, yes. A special thanks to all my juniors for making the day memorable. :)

PS: On my way back, a momentary distraction resulted in my falling off some 18 stairs at the Tilak Nagar Metro Station. I survived, with minor scratches here and there; but the gift I’d received at the ceremony could not. It got smashed into two pieces :(

Studies are going on as usual. I’m on physics for the moment, studying about pn-junctions, transistors, amplifiers, rectifiers et al. The amount of mathematics associated with them is mind boggling! Regular college has ended, but the numerous infinitesimally small tasks associated with it (read: getting files checked, getting assignments submitted) are far from over. No wonder college sucks!

Yesterday, I tested my twitter account via sms. But what to write there? I’m still thinking. Any ideas?
