So what’s a blog, anyway?

This weblog has been started to help out potential bloggers by providing them technical assistance in smallest of problems that might occur to them. I am going to think like a novice computer user and extend the requisite help. However, many of you can ask - What is a blog?
A blog is like an online journal
Just like people are used to keeping diaries to record their experiences, their confessions, their wants and desires, or their complaints; a weblog is an online diary, an online journal, where people can keep a record of whatever happened to them. A blog gives you a platform to express yourself, to publish your thoughts, and to make yourself heard.
A blog is like an anonymous online journal
The best part of blogging is, that you can decide to make yourself anonymous. You do not need to tell your name to the world, yet transmit what you think. People out there want to know what you want to say, not who you are. If you want to make some honest confessions, remaining anonymous is your best bet.
A blog is a like a two-way online journal
Your readers too, can express their opinions on your blog. This is achieved by a feature known as Comments. Commenting is provided by almost all blogging services out there, WordPress included. You can receive comments, moderate them (i.e., decide whether you want to display those comments on your blog or not), and even reply to them. You can, if you prefer, entirely turn off comments on your blog.
A blog mostly talks about a specific topic
Blogging started with people writing about their lives on the web. However, the scope of blogs has been widely expanded to include a variety of things. Apart from personal blogs, there are Entertainment Blogs, Political Blogs, Photo Blogs, Travel Blogs, Tech Blogs, Satire Blogs and many other types. Now-a-days, blogs have emerged as a powerful tool to disperse information. Millions of people world over read blogs on a daily basis. Information is now said to be consumed, and blogs are a powerful medium to do that.
Yup. That’s a blog!

P.S.: My next post will talk about Blogging Basics.
